Malaysian students involved in road accident in Egypt


SHAH ALAM: Eight Malaysian students from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, were involved in a road accident while on a trip to Port Said on Saturday (Jan 25).

Education Malaysia Egypt (EME) said three of the students, Muhammad Zafri Abdul Rasyid, Muhammad Sulhi Nazri, and Muhammad Rais Zafran Muhammad Shuhaimi, have been admitted to a hospital ward for further observation.

Five other students sustained minor injuries and were treated as outpatients.

They are Muhammad Firdaus Yacob, Muhammad Adli Fitri Mohd Anuar, Shahrul Aiman Jaafar, Muhammad Zulfiqar Ahmad Tarmizi, and Muhammad Hazieq Badrisyah Norhamedon.

"This incident has also gained the attention of Al-Azhar University, which sent officials from the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language (Female Students) in Port Said, including Dr Syaima Amir Al Bana, Dr Fauziyah Muhallal, Dr Ahmad Al Sudani, and Madam Syaima' Al Huseini," EME stated.

According to EME, the three students who were treated in the ward have been safely transferred to Sayed Galal Hospital in Cairo for further treatment.

"EME prays for the full recovery of all students involved and that they are given strength throughout their treatment and also advises students to always be cautious and vigilant when undertaking any activities to avoid unwanted incidents," it added.

In a statement on Sunday, the Foreign Minsitry confirmed the incident involving the Malaysian students in Egpyt.

Its communications and public diplomacy division said that Malaysian Embassy in Cairo and Education Malaysia Egypt (EME) is closely monitoring the situation.

Wisma Putra said the embassy would ensure the well-being of the students are closely monitored and to continue providing them support.

The eight students were identified as Muhammad Zafri Abdul Rasyid, Muhammad Sulhi Nazri, Muhammad Rais Zafran Muhammad Shuhaimi, Muhammad Firdaus Yacob, Muhammad Adli Fitri Mohd Anuar, Shahrul Aiman Jaafar, Muhammad Zulfiqar Ahmad Tarmizi and Muhammad Hazieq Badrisyah Norhamedon.
