Don’t take the law into your own hands, says Nancy on disabled man’s assault

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need to take the law into your own hands, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri following the incident where a disabled man was assaulted after crashing his motorcycle into a stall in Terengganu.

The Woman, Family and Community Development Minister described the actions as inhumane, stressing that there are authorities to take action in such situations.

“It should not have happened and we don’t know who is at fault.

“The important thing is that the police have already taken action.

“We will follow the police’s findings and take the necessary actions under our jurisdiction,” she told reporters after launching the Social Services e-Learning System and Social Institute of Malaysia’s official portal here on Thursday (Jan 23).

She also strongly urged the public on the situation as if it involves a person that they know or is a family member.

“Let’s say such a thing happened to your family member. How would you feel?

“If you ever come across such situations, refer to the authorities. Now it may be someone else but what if it was your loved one?

“I saw the video and this should not have happened,” she said.

Her views come after a disabled trader Ahmad Noh Al Faizan Jusoh was assaulted by a group of men after he crashed his motorcycle into a stall at the Pasar Tani Taman Astaka in Chukai, Terengganu earlier this month.

He sustained injuries to his body and face and was admitted to the Kemaman Hospital for treatment.

Police have since arrested three men between the ages of 18 and 60 to assist in the investigation.
