KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain assisted a motorcycle rider who was involved in an accident along the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban highway.
The country’s top cop helped the victim until he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred at about 7.37am yesterday when the IGP was on his way to Bukit Aman to attend a monthly assembly.
The motorcyclist, a Rela member, was travelling in the left lane before moving into the right lane.
Simultaneously, a car was also changing lanes, causing the motorcyclist to collide with the back of another car.
The IGP’s vehicle was coincidentally a few metres behind. He immediately got out, helped the victim and called the emergency hotline for an ambulance and traffic police.
The 56-year-old victim is reported to have suffered leg and arm injuries.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the drivers of both cars have lodged police reports while the motorcyclist remains in hospital.
At the monthly assembly, Razarudin told his men who are eyeing promotion that they must maintain a body mass index (BMI) of less than 28.
“The police have strengthened the process of promotions so that it is more transparent, fair and gives equal opportunities to all eligible members of the force.
“This initiative is important to ensure the health and skills of a police officer, while also showcasing their abilities in carrying out their duties to best service the public and country,” he said.
On another matter, police have arrested four more suspects as part of Ops Ragada, including a former mayor.
Razarudin said the four were arrested in two separate operations in Kuching.
On Wednesday, police arrested two women, aged 53 and 62.
Another operation carried out yesterday saw the arrest of two others, including the 67-year-old former mayor.
