SUBANG JAYA: Customers will not only enjoy the celebrations in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year festivity, they also have the opportunity to win exciting prizes in the Kongsi Meriah campaign organised by Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd.

Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said that the campaign is part of the company’s commitment to fostering the spirit of unity and harmony across various communities.

“With this Year of the Snake, Mydin, in collaboration with Star Media Group (SMG), is presenting a very interesting and creative game: the ‘Snake Board Game’.

“By playing the game, 10 lucky individuals also have the chance to win a ‘Supermarket Sweep,’ totalling up to RM8,880 worth of prizes,” he said during the launch of Mydin’s Chinese New Year Kongsi Meriah 2025 campaign here yesterday.

He said that Meriah cardholders will also receive vouchers worth a total of RM8,888 from various brands. He added that participants also have the opportunity to redeem vouchers, coupons and various offers through the MydinRewards app.

Ameer highlighted one of the campaign contests, where 28 lucky customers can get to enjoy a lion dance performance at their own homes with a minimum spend of RM118 at any Mydin outlet.

He said that the contest was also held last year and created many moments of unity between the communities.

“Many of our Malay customers won prizes, and they are very accepting of the lion dance performance and invited their Chinese friends and neighbours to their homes to enjoy the show,” Ameer added.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng, who launched the campaign, expressed her appreciation for Mydin’s initiatives, especially during the festive season, to help those in need.

“Mydin is an example of a company that goes above and beyond. They demonstrate true leadership by not only focusing on corporate profits alone, but also prioritising the well-being and unity of the community around them,” she added.

SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt, who attended the event, said that SMG is proud to collaborate with Mydin by contributing the Snake Board Game envisioned by the SMG content team.

“This game is not only intended for entertainment, but also brings an educational element that enriches the Kongsi Meriah campaign,” he said.

Chan added that players can learn interesting facts about snakes, the symbol of Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, through the game.

“We believe that this innovation is a prime example of how a strong collaboration can produce results that make an impact on the community,” he said.

In addition to the exciting campaign, Ameer said that for Chinese New Year, Mydin is carrying out the Mydin Prihatin initiative, where food boxes and cash vouchers will be distributed to 500 Chinese families from the B40 income group nationwide.

The initiative is in collaboration with the Selangor Social Welfare Department.

One of the recipients, Tsin Chau Min, 53, said that it was his first time receiving food boxes and cash vouchers.

“I feel happy that I received this from Mydin. The food box and voucher will help me and my family during this festive season,” he said.

Another recipient, 26-year-old Ooi Pei Li, was also elated to receive the food box.

“It is a great present for Chinese New Year,” she said.

Also present at the launch were SMG chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng, SMG chief business officer Lydia Wang and executive editor of content design Tung Eng Hwa.
