KUALA LUMPUR: A drug laboratory with RM8mil worth of suspected cocaine and other chemicals has been busted after police caught its “cook” in a previous raid.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin, at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters, said that the suspect was caught along Jalan Klang Lama on Jan 15.
“Checks conducted led to the discovery of two containers with 2.57l of suspected liquid cocaine and another bag containing 2.19kg of suspected cocaine ‘chunks’. Also seized were boxes of suspected drug processing equipment,” he said.
Following the arrest, the suspect led the police to a second location in the area which led to a raid at a suspected drug lab.
Additional drug processing equipment were found alongside 3,517.25l and 104.9kg of chemical materials.
A third raid was then conducted in Segambut where additional chemicals were seized.
In total, the police seized 2.2kg of solid cocaine and 2.6l of its liquid variety.
“The combined value of the drugs and chemicals seized was estimated to be around RM8mil.
“We have sent a sample of the drugs seized to determine its purity level. The suspect was also caught with two passports.
“He actually holds dual citizenship, in Britain and in Hong Kong. He entered the country with a tourist pass on Jan 3 using the Hong Kong passport,” he said.
The suspect had no prior police records and tested negative for drugs.
Investigations are underway to determine links to other drug cartels.
Comm Khaw said that the overseas market for cocaine was lucrative with prices reaching over RM1mil per kg in New Zealand and RM709,000 per kg in Hong Kong.
The suspect had been remanded for seven days, until Jan 22.
It is believed that the drugs were meant for both the international and local markets.
