Sabah Electricity announces two new renewable energy, green technology projects

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity (SE) launches two renewable energy and green technologies projects in the state.

“SE has been offered the opportunity to develop a 15-megawatt alternating current (MWac) Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) project by the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) in Kota Marudu. The offer, formalised through a Letter of Notification, was secured via a partnership with TNB Renewable Sdn Bhd (TRe),” said its chief executive officer, Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 8).

The LSSPV project involves installing 15 MWac of solar panels in Kampung Langkon, Kota Marudu.

Mohd Yaakob said the utility company had also planned to develop a 100-megawatt Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Lahad Datu.

“SE is confident that the LSSPV and BESS projects will set new benchmarks in sustainable energy innovation and enhance Sabah’s renewable energy capacity,” he added.
