SPM exams proceed smoothly in Kelantan despite floods

RANTAU PANJANG: The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2024 examinations in Kelantan are proceeding smoothly, even though two centres are still flooded with water that is about 0.3 metres deep.

Kelantan State Education Department director Datuk Mohd Zamri Abdul Aziz said all candidates began their SPM examinations at 8am with papers for Bahasa Melayu and Visual Arts Education.

He said two examination centres are flooded, namely Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) Arab (A) Diniah and SMU (A) Al-Falah in Rantau Panjang.

Mohd Zamri said that a total of 27,017 candidates will sit for SPM in 284 centres across Kelantan, including Kelantan Islamic Foundation schools and private schools.

"There are 261 schools serving as centres, and as of yesterday afternoon, two schools remain flooded, affecting 35 SPM candidates at SMU (A) Diniah and 48 at SMU (A) Al-Falah.

There is no need for relocation and the examinations can continue,” he said at a press conference here on Thursday (Jan 2).

He attended a Meet and Greet Programme with 189 SPM candidates at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Rantau Panjang.

“We are working with the Kelantan State Health Department and have prepared by placing exam staff in hospitals in case any candidates fall ill,” said Mohd Zamri.

"A total of 2,398 staff have been appointed to ensure the smooth running of SPM in Kelantan this time, and 20 secure rooms are used to store the examination papers,” he added.
