Girl, 6, dies after getting trapped between folding table at Penang house


NIBONG TEBAL: A six-year-old child died after reportedly getting trapped between the legs of a folding table while playing at her home in Taman Seri Putera here on Wednesday (Jan 1).

In the incident, which occurred around 4.15pm, the victim, Nur Aqifah Humaira Abdullah, was said to be playing alone at the back of the townhouse rented by her mother.

The victim's mother and siblings were inside the house, and only became aware of the incident after they did not hear any sound from the back of the house.

The police received a call from the hospital regarding the death of the girl and rushed to the location, reported Sinar Harian on Thursday (Jan 2).

Following this, a police forensics team and an investigation officer conducted an investigation at the victim's house.

It is understood that a postmortem will be carried out at the Parit Buntar Hospital in Perak.

Meanwhile, state police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad confirmed the incident and said investigation was being conducted under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
