Jawi offers free funeral management services for underprivileged

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) offers free funeral management services for the underprivileged, including the asnaf group, those unable to afford the expenses, unclaimed bodies, those without next of kin, and new converts to Islam.

Announcing the services, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, emphasised, however, that priority would be given to Federal Territories residents.

"Jawi's contributions include fulfilling the fardhu kifayah obligations for all deceased individuals, regardless of background or age, whether they have next of kin, are unclaimed or converts.

"Jawi's commitment to serving the ummah and the community, particularly in the Federal Territories, deserves recognition as a government agency dedicated to public welfare," he stated in a Facebook post on Monday (Dec 30).

He added that the department has consistently led Islamic affairs in the Federal Territories, including funeral management, since its inception.
