Mother and toddler killed in crash

IPOH: A mother and her two-year-old son were killed in an accident at KM212 southbound on the West Coast Expressway near Manjung.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the toddler was flung out of the car, which was driven by his father, after the vehicle hit a divider and overturned in the pre-dawn tragedy on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old driver escaped death, along with another son aged three.

“Another car headed in the same direction could not stop in time and hit the boy on the road,” he said in a statement yesterday.

ACP Hasbullah said a third car was also involved, after it knocked onto the overturned vehicle.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

He urged eye witnesses to assist with the investigation, adding that the officer in charge, Insp Nur Syafiqah Baharudin, can be contacted at 012-637 5962 or 05-689 9072.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations division) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the deceased woman was identified as Nor Fadhilah Mohd Azlan, 24.

He said two others were also injured in the accident.
