SEREMBAN: A 52-year-old rubber tapper has been sentenced to serve 15 years in jail by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to committing incest with his 11-year-old daughter.
Judge Surita Budin also ordered the accused to be whipped five times.
She ordered the sentence to start from the day of his arrest on Jan 31, 2020.
The accused was charged with committing the offence between June 2019 and December of the same year at a house in a land scheme in Tampin.
He was charged under Section 376B of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between 10 years and 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
In mitigation, lawyer Muhammad Hafiz Leman told the court the man wished to turn a new leaf and to take care of his mother as soon as he is released.
The father, he said, had never run afoul of the law prior to the crime.
Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni asked for a stern punishment as a lesson to the offender and society.
