Comedian Along Cham claims trial to drug possession


SEPANG: Comedian Muhammad Nizamuddin Ahmad, 41, also known as Along Cham, has been charged at the Sessions Court here with having in his possession 58.23g of cannabis on Friday (Dec 20).

The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.

According to the charge, the comedian is accused of possessing a substance suspected to be cannabis at a house in Cyberjaya, Selangor, at 3.10pm on Dec 14.

The charge is framed under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act.

If found guilty, the accused could face between five years jail and life imprisonment, as well a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Zuhaini Mahamad Amin did not offer bail for the accused and set the proceedings for the submission of the chemical report on Jan 27 next year.

Along appealed for bail, but the judge did not grant it as the charge under that section is non-bailable.

The accused is also expected to face another charge in the Magistrate's Court shortly.

It was reported that police confirmed arresting a celebrity on suspicion of possessing marijuana at his home in Cyberjaya on Saturday (Dec 14).

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman said the celebrity was taken to a Magistrate's Court in Banting for a remand order to enable investigations under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
