Traffic policeman apologises after issuing fine, earns praise for kindness to impoverished family

PETALING JAYA: A traffic policeman has earned praise for showing compassion to a family down on their luck during a routine traffic stop.

A TikTok posted by user @mpv_shah of the exchange which went viral and received over 2.1 million views touched the hearts of many.

During the roadblock, Corporal Muhamad Nur Shahrul Andhar Rosmi initially issued a fine to a driver without a license. After the driver expressed his struggles, stating, "Today has been full of bad luck. Went to look for a job but couldn't get one; now, I receive a fine,"

The statement deeply affected Officer Shah, prompting him to approach the family again to apologise for issuing the fine. Also upon learning that the entire family hadn’t eaten, he provided some cash to help them out.

In the video, Shah said, "Issuing summons is part of the job to prevent repeat offences, but helping others comes from the heart."

The video has resonated with people online with many users sharing their reactions to express support for his act of kindness.

User @Hamka60 commented, "Congratulations, Corporal Muhammad Nur, for your compassion while remaining firm in carrying out your duties. If all officers had this attitude, it would be wonderful. Your mother must be proud to have raised someone like you."

Others were equally touched by Shah’s actions. @Modesenyap commented simply, "You are a good policeman," while @Rika Wahyuni added, "The best police officer I’ve ever known—treats everyone kindly, no matter their race. MPV Shah, you’re truly amazing..."

Many netizens expressed how deeply they were moved by the officer’s empathy. @Zaralaksasotong shared, "You made me shed manly tears, MPV Shah... Thank you, kind-hearted soul."

@KampongBoy expressed hope for more officers to follow MPV Shah’s example, "I truly hope more officers in blue would act like this to restore the reputation of the police force, which has been tarnished in recent times. Well done, teacher!"

@ABet highlighted the importance of balancing duty with compassion, "Wrong is still wrong. But alongside carrying out duties and responsibilities, there should also be compassion to understand the situation..."
