Police investigating crude gesture at rally, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) has begun investigating the police personnel who allegedly made a crude gesture towards a woman during a rally on Friday (December 13).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain urged the woman to come forward and lodge a police report to enable further investigation.

"JIPS has begun investigating the incident, but we urge the woman to lodge a police report as soon as possible.

If there are any other victims who have experienced similar incidents with the police personnel, they should come forward as well," he said on Monday (December 16).

The IGP said that a thorough and transparent investigation would be conducted.

Previously, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the police have identified the personnel involved, who was on duty in the city.

An investigation has started despite not receiving any report.

The woman's post on Instagram has gone viral, claiming the police personnel made a crude gesture towards her while she was taking photos at a human rights protest.

She also claimed that the police personnel repeated the gesture several times.
