KUALA LUMPUR: Former research assistant Muhammed Yusoff Rawther (pic) will submit a representation to the Attorney General (AG) seeking to have the charges against him for trafficking 305g of ganja and possessing two imitation pistols dropped.
His lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said the representation would be filed soon after reviewing the prosecution's documents.
“For both cases, we are requesting a full discharge and acquittal (DNA), not a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA),” he told reporters after case mention at a Magistrate's Court here on Friday (Dec 13).

Earlier, Magistrate MS Arunjothy allowed DPP Mohd Sabri Othman's application to transfer the imitation weapons case to the High Court, where it will be tried alongside the drug case.
At the High Court, Justice Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin set Jan 7 for case management.
Yusoff was charged with possessing two imitation pistols on the roadside near a condominium in Jalan Bukit Kiara here at 9.25am on Sept 6.

The charge is framed under Section 36 (1) of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a maximum jail sentence of one year or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both, if convicted.
He was also charged with trafficking 305g of cannabis in a vehicle in front of the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters surau at 10.15am on Sept 6.
The charge, framed under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same legislation, provides for life imprisonment and also no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. – Bernama
