9,000 cops without housing to be placed in unused Education Ministry quarters

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry plans to place 9,000 police personnel who are without government accommodation at vacant quarters belonging to the Education Ministry nationwide.

Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he hoped the placement could be implemented in the first quarter of next year.

"The Cabinet was informed that the Education Ministry has 17,000 units of unoccupied quarters.

"Our information shows that about 9,000 police personnel are without accommodation, so we have begun discussions with the Education Ministry for them to be housed there," he said in his speech during the Home Ministry's monthly assembly on Thursday (Dec 12).

This arrangement would solve the issue of police personnel without quarters, he added.

"We will cover any cost of repairs or maintenance for the quarters," he said, noting that accommodation for police personnel is a priority for him.

"(Having) proper accommodation will certainly spur the police personnel to perform their duties and obligations well.

"It will also ease their burden and give them peace of mind," he said.
