JOHOR BARU: A faulty core switch has been identified as the cause of Sunday's (Dec 8) immigration autogate system outage at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex here.

State Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the technical issue had affected the autogates at the bus hall since noon on Sunday.

"This also affected the QR code scanning system," he said, adding that the system failure was under Syarikat TMR Urusharta (M) Sdn. Bhd, a building management company.

He added that remedial works were immediately done and the system was fully operational by 6.30pm.

"We thank the company for their commitment to rectifying the issue," he said in a statement.

He added that they were also carrying out constant monitoring to ensure that the system glitch did not repeat in the bus hall.

"We are constantly trying to improve the work process and systems to ensure smoother movement in our major gateway with Singapore," he added.

The Star had earlier reported that at the height of the issue on Sunday, tens of thousands of people were stuck at BSI for up to four hours after the autogates failed.

Many members of the public took to social media to express their frustration about the long delays.
