Women of Barisan saluted for leadership, resilience

KUALA LUMPUR: The women wings of Barisan Nasional parties must combine their individual strengths and leave no one behind in the country’s development, says its women’s chief Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad.

She said Wanita members of these component parties – Umno, MCA, MIC, PBRS and Friends of BN – should remain resilient in dealing with challenges and fighting for the future of the younger generation.

Barisan women, she added, must rise once again to be the pillar of the coalition.

“You are the backbone that ensures Barisan continues to stand firm, even when political storms are raging,” she said, adding that they had gone through “times of glory” as well as downfalls. “We have tasted the sweetness of victory, but we have also been disappointed, abandoned by our fellow fighters and slandered, leading to people’s distrust.

“However, in each dark episode, we rose time and again; not because we had to, but because we knew that Barisan is the only hope for the stability and prosperity of the people,” she said in addressing Wanita Barisan’s 50th anniversary celebration yesterday.

Noraini said the past five decades had demonstrated the role of Barisan’s female members as the heartbeat on all fronts.

“We do not just provide support; we lead, we sacrifice and we carry the responsibility to ensure that Barisan remains the hope of the rakyat,” she said.

“Your presence here today is not just a symbol of unity, but proof that the spirit to fight for the people remains strong.”
