KOTA BARU: Two friends running a computer and laptop repair service here are offering free chemical cleaning services for electronic gadgets submerged in the recent Kelantan floods.

The owner of Mumtaz Network, Khadijah Mod Suhaimi, 32, said the free service initiative came about when she and her friend Siti Ismatu Saadiah Rusly, 32, saw many victims of the natural calamity facing huge losses after their household items could not be saved.

Having been involved in the computer service business for the past 10 years, they posted the offer on Mumtaz Network’s TikTok account on Monday.

Since then, the post has gone viral, garnering over 60,000 views and almost 5,000 shares, while some 30 laptops of flood victims have been repaired.

“Among the lifelines that can be used for computers or laptops of flood victims is chemical cleaning, which is a thorough scrubbing using chemicals to remove dirt, including mud that has entered the inside of the electronic device,” said Siti Ismatu Saadiah.

“Every component of the computer or laptop, including tablets sent by flood victims, will be opened to see the affected parts before it is washed with special chemicals and dried,” she added.

In the comments section, users praised the actions of the two friends who helped ease the burden of flood victims. They also prayed for their business to grow and prosper.

Khadijah, a software engineering graduate from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, said most of those who sent in their electronic devices were flood victims from Tumpat, Pasir Puteh and Pasir Mas.

“It took me less than three hours to repair the electronic devices sent. Assisted by Siti Ismatu Saadiah, depending on the level of damage, we can repair around five to six laptops daily.

“Usually, such services cost between RM150 and RM300 for each electronic device. However, I believe that my small deed in providing these services for free can ease the burden of flood victims,” she said.

Khadijah advises victims whose laptops or computers were submerged in floodwaters not to turn on the devices before they undergo chemical cleaning to avoid worsening the damage and the inability to use them again.

“If they do not turn on their electronic devices until they are thoroughly cleaned, they can be used as before. So far, the electronic devices that were sent to me could be turned on.

“This comprehensive cleaning service offered for electronic devices does not have a time limit. I take into account the situation of some flood victims who are still stranded in their areas and cannot send their computers or laptops to us,” she added.

Mumtaz Network is open from 10am to 6pm, from Sunday to Thursday. — Bernama
