Immigration busts 93 undocumented migrants in Ampang raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Ninety-three undocumented foreigners were detained following a raid at an apartment in Taman Dagang, Ampang.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the raid was conducted at about 12.30am on Thursday (Dec 5).

"Those detained were from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan between the age of four months and 55 years old.

"We inspected 189 individuals following complaints from the public on undocumented foreigners living in the area," he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 6).

Some foreigners tried to escape but were thwarted by the raiding team, he said.

"Those detained were brought to an Immigration depot for further investigation.

"We will conduct similar operations and take stern action against anyone who commits immigration offences," he said.

A total of 162 Immigration officers were involved in the operation with the assistance of the Civil Defence Force.
