BERITA Harian reported that 37 teachers had to get on fire engines to collect the oral examination papers for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam in Tumpat.

The teachers were serving as exam invigilators and had to take the papers from the safe deposit room at SMK Tumpat on Monday.

They were transported in a five-tonne truck due to several roads leading to the flooded school being impassable to vehicles, including pickup trucks.

Wakaf Bharu Fire and Rescue Department chief Nazah Nafi said all the teachers gathered in Kampung Terbak first before they were taken in the fire engines.

“A team of three personnel were involved in the operation of transporting the group of teachers to collect the exam papers at the safe deposit room in SMK Tumpat before distributing them to SMK Geting and SM Ugama (Arab) Meheliah Geting.

“Several roads in Pengkalan Kubor are still flooded and light vehicles can’t pass through, including four-wheel drives,” he said.

Nazah said that for operations around Wakaf Bharu, evacuations have been discontinued as the water level has receded, but many areas are still flooded.
