S'pore PM down with Covid-19, JS-SEZ signing delayed until January, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced the postponement of the signing of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) agreement, initially scheduled for Dec 9, to January 2025.

Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, said the delay was due to Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong testing positive for Covid-19.

"Last night, the Prime Minister of Singapore informed me of his Covid-19 infection. Therefore, the signing of the agreement may need to be postponed to January," he told Dewan Negara on Wednesday (Dec 4) during the second reading of the Supply Bill 2025.

Anwar said that the agreement would represent a significant step in the context of Asean and Malaysia's positive relationship with Singapore.

"It will bolster trade and investment cooperation, which we believe will stimulate the economy and development of Johor," he said.

On Nov 28, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli had said that the review of the draft joint JS-SEZ agreement between Malaysia and Singapore was in its final stage and expected to be finalised this December. – Bernama
