Speedier clearance for Malaysians entering Taiwan

Quick entry: Travellers can register for the facility at the airport immigration hall when they arrive in Taiwan.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian travellers can now clear immigration at Taiwan’s International Airport in just 10 seconds.

Malaysian passport holders who meet the prescribed eligibility requirements can zip through immigration at the airport using Taiwan’s new and improved third-generation automated clearance system.

According to a Facebook post by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, the first Malaysian traveller successfully cleared immigration and customs at Taoyuan International Airport in just 10 seconds, a significant improvement from the previously estimated clearance time of around 25 minutes for Malaysian travellers.

To use the system, travellers must hold a chip passport valid for at least a remaining six months, be at least 12 years old and 140cm tall, and have no record of violating Taiwanese laws.

The system is also available at other major airports and National Immigration Agency service centres.

To enrol for the speedier immigration clearance, Malaysian travellers can register at the immigration hall within one minute, present their valid e-passport, submit an electronic application and have their photo and fingerprints captured at an enrolment centre in Taiwan.

Travellers must re-enrol if they obtain a new passport or Alien Resident Card.

The new e-Gate system aims to streamline the arrival process for eligible Malaysian visitors, providing a faster and more convenient immigration experience in Taiwan.
