KUCHING: The remote Three Sisters Waterfall in Sarawak's Baram area should be gazetted as a new nature park or reserve, says a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) backbencher.

Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau described the waterfall as "God's gift of nature" with a unique beauty not found elsewhere in Malaysia.

"The uniqueness of this waterfall is that three different falls drop into one big pool, making one feel as if they were in a Hollywood movie location," he said when debating the 2025 state budget in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly on Friday (Nov 15).

Dennis said the waterfall, located between Long Beku and Long San in Ulu Baram, attracted a steady stream of visitors.

He urged the authorities to gazette the site and develop basic facilities for visitors such as an access road, resthouse, toilets and paths.

"This is a potential gold mine for the locals," he added.

According to the Sarawak Tourism Board website, the waterfall is called Three Sisters because of three distinctive cascading falls flowing side by side.

It said the trek to the falls offers a rugged jungle experience with river crossings and challenging terrain.

Visitors are advised to hire a local guide from Long San to navigate the trail to the falls.
