Leaders continue to pay last respects to Daim at residence


KUALA LUMPUR: More political leaders continued arriving to pay their last respects to the late Tun Daim Zainuddin at the latter’s residence here on Wednesday (Nov 13).

Among those seen at Daim’s home were former ministers Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar and Tan Sri Rais Yatim as well as Perikatan Nasional leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir was also present to pay his respects.

Earlier, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Tun Dr Hasmah Mohamad Ali arrived around 12.48pm and stayed for around half an hour.

Daim breathed his last at 8.21am on Wednesday while receiving treatment at Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya. He was 86.

Daim, whose real name is Che Abdul Daim Zainuddin, served as Finance Minister from 1984 to 1991 and held the position again from 1999 to 2001.

The funeral prayer is scheduled at Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan in Jalan Duta after the Asar prayers.
