Man arrested in George Town for firearms possession


GEORGE TOWN: A 48-year-old man has been arrested for possession of firearms found in his car boot, here.

Acting George Town OCPD Supt Lee Swee Sake stated that the local man not only possessed two firearms, a pistol and a revolver, but also had eight bullets in the boot.

"The Criminal Investigation Division arrested the man along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here on Sunday (Nov 10) at around 9am.

"During questioning, the suspect admitted to keeping a firearm in the boot of his car, which was parked in the Paya Terubong area, in Air Itam, here," he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 11).

Supt Lee said that upon checking the car boot, they found a pistol, a revolver, and eight bullets.

"This case is being investigated under Section 7(1) of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971.

"The suspect has been remanded for seven days from Monday (Nov 11) until Nov 17 for further investigation."
