Cops looking into theft of tiger’s body parts

SHAH ALAM: The theft of body parts from a tiger that had been found dead, believed to have been hit by a lorry in Perak, is now a police case.

Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the ministry is taking the issue seriously and is gathering further information.

“The driver who hit the tiger has been identified, but regarding the theft, based on the information we have, it might have been committed by other parties,” he told a press conference after opening the inaugural National Hornbill Day celebration here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the celebration, Malaysia emphasised its commitment to preserving its unique avian heritage and advancing environmental conservation efforts.

Nik Nazmi said the celebration supports Malaysia’s National Policy on Biological Diversity which aims for a nation “living in harmony with nature by 2050”.
