‘We will meet in court’, says Saifuddin to Sanusi

NIBONG TEBAL: We will meet in court, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, referring to Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's legal suit against him.

"I will attend the hearing of the defamation suit filed by the Kedah Mentri Besar against me as soon as the court sets the new date," said the Home Minister during a press conference held after the handing over of the Jawi Immigration Depot and Quarters in Jawi, on Sunday (Nov 10).

On November 7, it was reported that Muhammad Sanusi was suing Saifuddin for statements made during a state election campaign.

"He used government apparatus to attack us during that time.

"We collected his baseless statements from the campaign and have sued him based on those remarks.

"This suit is against Saifuddin, not against the Home Minister, so please do not misunderstand. He made slanderous claims," Muhammad Sanusi said.

He alleged that Saifuddin, who is also Pakatan Harapan's secretary-general, defamed him by claiming he misused funds from the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris).

According to the statement of claim, Saifuddin allegedly made defamatory statements during a speech at the Unity Tour Programme and the Launch of the Kedah Unity Machinery event at the Guar Chempedak field in Yan at 8.30pm on July 15, 2023.

Muhammad Sanusi filed the writ of summons and statement of claim at the Alor Setar High Court on Aug 3, 2023.

He then requested to postpone the case hearing, which is scheduled for three days beginning Monday (Nov 11).

"I was informed that he applied for a postponement yesterday, citing his busy schedule. I'm not sure if the court has granted this, but if it does, we're willing to reschedule," said Saifuddin.
