PM congratulates Trump, hopes for US to end wars

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Donald Trump for his victory in the United States presidential election and hopes the US can use its considerable influence to help end the devastating violence and loss of life in Palestine and Ukraine.

Describing Trump’s win as a remarkable political comeback, the Prime Minister said this new chapter brings renewed opportunities.

“We are ready to move forward with optimism, collaboration and shared purpose.

“The US remains Malaysia’s largest source of foreign investment and a vital player in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Anwar in a statement.

Anwar also said that as Asean Chair in 2025, Malaysia hopes that the US would reinvigorate its engagement with South-East Asia.

“We look forward to working closely with the incoming president to foster mutual benefits for the people of both our nations,” the Prime Minister said.

Trump is set to become the 47th President of the United States after having lost the 2020 election to Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

The 78-year-old businessman had also served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021.
