Footage of cop's car hitting student screened in Ipoh murder trial


IPOH: Footage from five sources, showing a fatal accident where a car driven by a senior police officer hit a 17-year-old student on a motorcycle, has been screened in court.

Police forensic investigation officer Asst Supt Nur Fairuz Idris, the third witness, said on Wednesday (Nov 6) that the videos were collected from five sources, including a CD-R, memory card, DVD-R, a dashcam and a memory card.

He said the videos included CCTV footage from two houses.

ASP Nur Fairuz added that 24 screenshots were extracted from the footage and submitted into evidence.

Meanwhile, the fifth witness, police photographer Corporal Shahiran Mohd, testified that he took 35 photos at the scene.

Among these were images of the deceased's injuries, including facial and hand injuries, and two photos taken before the post-mortem.

The case is being heard in the High Court here before Justice Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz led the prosecution team comprising Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, V. Suloshani and Low Qin Hui.

The defence team was led by M. Athimulan, former Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid and Aiman Hakim Kamaruzzaman.

On Tuesday (Nov 5), DPP Afzainizam said in his opening statement that the accused, Deputy Supt Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak chased down the victim, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie and rammed into him at high speed without taking any evasive action.

DSP Mohd Nazri is accused of murdering Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie at the intersection of Jalan Taman Jati/Jalan Pekeliling Meru Indah near SMK Jati here on Dec 15 last year between 12.05pm and 12.40pm.

DSP Mohd Nazri was first charged at the Magistrate's Court here on Dec 18, 2023.

The trial continues on Thursday (Nov 7).
