BAYAN LEPAS: A French national has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Bayan Indah here, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.

Southwest OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam told Sinar Harian that the 29-year-old man was detained on Monday (Nov 4).

He explained that the man used abusive language and acted aggressively during the inspection.

"The single man was stopped at a roadblock in Bayan Indah. Prior to this, he was driving a car and was instructed to stop for inspection.

"During the body search, the man, who works as a waiter at a restaurant in a shopping mall here, acted aggressively by using foul language and pushing the police officer inspecting him," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Monday.

He added that the man was subsequently taken to the Bayan Lepas police station for further investigation.

"Tests conducted showed he was driving under the influence of alcohol," he said.

"The case is being investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020)," he added.
