Teen girl, 10-year-old boy killed in Kinabatangan accident


KOTA KINABALU: A teenage girl and a 10-year-old boy were killed in a fatal accident involving six victims in a car, along Batu 32 Bukit Garam in Kinabatangan district on Wednesday (Oct 30).

No further information was obtained on both the deceased, but it was reported that a 53-year-old man, an adult woman and a six-year-old boy suffered injuries while a 10-year-old girl was unhurt in the incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 5.20pm and seven firemen from the Kinabatangan fire station were sent to location, where the police and Health Ministry staff were also present.

“It is learnt that they were all in a seven-seater SUV which swerved and landed on its side along the road.

“Two victims were declared dead on site by medical officers and the injured victims were rushed to the hospital using an ambulance for further treatment.

“The bodies have been handed over to the police for further actions, and after ensuring no more risks, the operation ended at 7.13pm,” said the department spokesman.

Meanwhile in a separate incident in the Lahad Datu district, a call came in at 7.56pm alerting rescuers to an incident where a nine-tonne lorry accidentally plunged into a 5m deep ditch.

The driver, in his forties, was reported to be safe.

A team was sent from the Lahad Datu fire station to the spot at Jalan Silam Batu 15, Silam there, where the victim managed to crawl out of the vehicle himself before they arrived.

“After ensuring no more risks, the operation ended at 8.43pm,” said the Department spokesman.
