SUNGAI PETANI: The body of Muhamad Aiman Safwan Mahadzir, 25, who was feared to have drowned at the Pasir Bisik fish landing centre in Kota Kuala Muda on Sunday (Oct 27), has been found on the beach about 1.5km from the location where he was last seen.
Senior Fire Officer I Wan Mohd Hamizi Wan Mohd Zin, assistant director of the Kedah Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) fire and rescue operations division, reported that the body was discovered by the public at 11.50am on Tuesday (Oct 29) before being brought to the Fire Control Post (PKB) at the operations' location.
"The search and rescue (SAR) operation entered its third day today and was joined by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), employing 'surface water searching' techniques along 1.5km of the coastline," he stated.
"The body was found washed up on the beach approximately 1.5km from the victim's last known location of the victim and was handed over to the police at 1.12pm."
He explained that Muhamad Aiman Safwan was believed to have drowned after being reported missing at 12.41pm on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail confirmed that the body was identified by the victim's mother, Rosnah Razali, 48.
"The body was sent to the forensics unit of the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) for an autopsy," he added.
It was reported that Muhamad Aiman Safwan went to Pasar Bisik to buy fish and was on the beach waiting for the fishing boat to arrive before going missing, presumably swept away by strong currents. – Bernama
