Undocumented Filipino delivery rider arrested with drugs in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A Filipino man found himself in hot water for not only failing to produce a valid identification document but also being caught with 10 small packets of drugs.

The 20-year-old delivery rider attempted to flee when approached by police, resulting in a scuffle before he was successfully apprehended.

According to Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin, the arrest followed a public tip-off about suspected drug activity in the area.

“We spotted the suspect behaving suspiciously as he retrieved something from the basket on his motorcycle. He tried to escape, but we managed to bring him down,” Jasmin said in a statement on Friday (Oct 25).

ACP Jasmin reported that the seized drugs weighed about 512.90g, with an estimated street value of RM30,930.

“We found 10 transparent packets of varying sizes, each containing a clear crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, in his possession,” he added.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days to facilitate police investigations, and the evidence was secured for further examination.

"Police are working to trace the distribution network of these drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," ACP Jasmin said.
