Fire damages three double-storey terrace houses in JB


JOHOR BARU: A fire destroyed three double-storey terrace houses along Jalan Putra 18 in Taman Tan Sri Yaakob here during the wee hours of Wednesday (Oct 23).

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call on the incident at 3.04am and immediately deployed 21 firemen from the Larkin and Skudai fire stations immediately.

According to operation commander Mohd Suhaimi Abdul Jamal, the fire damaged three houses that were located next to one another.

“The fire is believed to have started from the middle house’s porch area before spreading to the other two houses next to it. The three houses sustained different levels of damage.

“The first house was 70% burnt while the second and third houses suffered 8% and 4% damages respectively,” he added.

Mohd Suhaimi added that the fire also caused some serious damage to two cars and four motorcycles but no one was injured during the incident.

“Upon arriving at the scene at 3.17am, we found that the fire had spread to the other two houses and firemen took action to control and extinguish the fire.

“The fire was brought under control at around 5.55am before ending the operation at 6.51am,” he said, adding that the cause of the incident and estimated losses were still under investigation.
