Senior citizen killed in Jempol road accident

JEMPOL: An 85-year-old electric bike rider died following a collision with a car along KM5 of Jalan Bahau-Kemayan, says OCPD Supt Hoo Chang Hook.

He said the accident occurred as the victim was crossing the road and was struck by a car driven by a 55-year-old woman at approximately 5.50pm on Wednesday (Oct 16).

"The driver, returning home to Ladang Geddes from Bahau, collided with the victim as he was making a turn near SMK Bahau 2 towards Taman Sri Mahsan," said Supt Hoo in his statement.

He added that the victim suffered severe injuries to his head and face and died instantly at the scene.

Supt Hoo has called for witnesses of the incident to come forward and assist with the inquiry by contacting the investigating officer, Insp Yasmin Beevee Mohamed Ali, at 012 943 4222.

The incident is currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers cases of reckless driving.
