UiTM student survives crash, tearfully remembers memories with friends

PETALING JAYA: “I don’t fully remember what happened; the next thing I knew, I was in a drain,” says Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun student Muhammad Ammar Danish Mohammad Ridwan, 20, who survived a crash that killed three of his friends after they were struck by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Jalan Pantai Sura on Wednesday.

According to Sinar Harian Muhammad Ammar was quoted saying that the accident occurred while he was riding a motorcycle with his late friend, Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, after they had returned from shopping in Dungun town.

He explained that two of their other friends, the late Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, and the late Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20, had also joined them on another motorcycle.

“At first, it was just Khairil and me who planned to buy some items after completing a co-curricular activity at the campus, but then Akmal and Adib also said they wanted to join us.

“So, the four of us went together. I still remember us joking around before heading back, and that’s the last memory I have of them.

“I don’t fully recall the incident, but witnesses said we were hit from behind,” he said when reporters visited him at Dungun Hospital on Saturday (Oct 12).

Muhammad Ammar said he is deeply affected by the loss of his three close friends but has accepted their fate.

“It’s very sad because I never thought that our trip to shop together would be the last memory I have of them.

“I pray that the souls of my three dear friends are blessed and placed among the righteous,” he said tearfully.

He added that his health is slowly improving.

“For now, I can’t walk quickly because both of my legs are stitched up.

“My head also hurts—the doctor said it’s from the fall. Please pray for me to stay strong and fully recover soon,” he said.

In the 7:35pm incident, three UiTM Dungun students died, while one other friend was seriously injured after the two motorcycles they were riding on were hit by an SUV on Jalan Pantai, in front of UiTM Dungun.

The three victims who lost their lives were Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, from Muar, Johor; Ku Adib Ku Azmi, 20, from Sungai Buloh, Selangor; and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, from Ampang, Selangor.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Ammar Danish Mohammad Ridhuan, 20, from Kuala Lumpur, suffered injuries to his waist and is currently receiving treatment at Dungun Hospital.
