Bank officer sustains minor injuries after car collided with elephant in Kluang

KLUANG: A female bank officer sustained minor injuries after her car hit an elephant on Jalan Kahang Barat here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident occurred at around 7.15pm on Wednesday evening (Oct 9) where the driver lodged a police report on the same day some four hours later.

“Early investigation found the driver was driving her car from Kahang heading towards Taman Seri Impian through Jalan Kahang Barat here.

“The incident location is a hilly road with low visibility as there are no streetlights. While driving, a herd of elephants suddenly appeared in the middle of the road,” he said here on Thursday (Oct 10).

ACP Bahrin added that the distance between the car and the elephant was too close, and in the dark, the car then hit one of the elephants on its left leg.

“Due to the collision, the victim’s car sustained serious damage but she escaped with only chest pain and has since received outpatient treatment at Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Kluang Hospital.

“The elephant herd then left the scene immediately following the accident,” he said adding that road users should always be vigilant when going through roads known for animal crossing.
