Tony Fernandes appointed adjunct professor at UM


PETALING JAYA: Capital A Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has been appointed an adjunct professor at Universiti Malaya (UM) for three years.

In a statement released by UM on Friday (Oct 4), it said his wealth of experience in the aviation industry and business leadership will bring invaluable insights to students, lecturers, and the university as a whole.

Fernandes is best known for transforming AirAsia, which Capital A operates, into one of Asia's largest and most successful airlines.

UM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Seri Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman said Fernandes’ presence reflects the strategic synergy of being future driven in creating new domains of teaching and learning experience for the campus community.

“The end results will be of great importance to the higher goal of industrialising new outcomes of impact driven results for the good of our nation in terms of skill and knowledge cultivation,” he said.

UM added that with more than 35 years of experience in various industries, the Capital A CEO can provide students with unparalleled access to industry expertise, bridging academic knowledge with real-world business practices.

Fernandes will also be delivering multiple lectures, seminars, and workshops annually and will assist UM in developing strategic partnerships with both national and international organisations.

“His leadership and achievements will serve as an inspiration not only to students but also to faculty members, enriching the programmes offered by the University,” it added.
