DURING the day, Siti Munirah Abdul Malik works as a part-time lecturer but by night, she puts on a different hat.

The 31-year-old has been working as a freelance translator to earn extra income over the past decade, Harian Metro reported.

“I began with transcribing Bahasa Melayu conversations and later found that translation work gave better returns,” she said.

She pays close attention to making sure her translation work is accurate and easily understood.

Siti Munirah acknowledged challenges in ensuring her side job did not take away from her main work responsibilities as well as family time.

“When I return from work in the evening, I spend time with my family and then allocate several hours each night for my translation work.

“If there are pending assignments, I will send my children to daycare and finish them over the weekend,” she said.

“I have also been offered translation jobs for casino websites and pro-Israel new portals but I rejected them even though the offered payments were good,” Siti Munirah added.

> The Malay daily also reported renowned singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza as saying that her decision to tie the knot with Datuk Seri Khalid Mohd Jiwa 18 years ago “upset” some of her fanbase.

“My fanbase was split in two. Some chose to continue supporting while others left.

“They expressed disappointment with my decision. Fortunately, social media was not around at that time, or else I would have been heavily criticised,” she said.

Though taken aback by the situation, Siti took it in stride.

“I went through it with patience. I had faith in the Almighty’s plans,” she said.

Siti Nurhaliza married Khalid, better known as Datuk K, in 2006.

> Kosmo! reported that singer Mawi has parted with his locks for the fans ahead of his concert in Kuala Lumpur next month.

Sporting a crew cut, the 43-year-old, whose full name is Asmawi Ani, said his hair, which was kept for the past seven-years, was cut by his wife.

“My child was quite upset with this. I felt the same way too but my shaved head has been part of my image ever since I joined the entertainment industry,” he said.
