Mom and daughter among five nabbed for drug trafficking, says Johor cops

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested five locals, including a mother and daughter, for allegedly trafficking drugs since July this year.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that based on intelligence gathering, police carried out three raids involving apartments within the city area at around 1am last Tuesday (Aug 27).

“The raids led us to arrest three males and two females, including a mother and daughter, aged between 39 and 69 years. During one of the raids, police seized an air gun and 33 blank bullets from one of the suspects.

“We believed that the air gun and the blank bullets were bought on an e-commerce online platform,” he said in a press conference held at Johor Baru South police headquarters here on Monday (Sept 2).

He added that besides the air gun and the blank bullets, police seized 4.9kg of syabu worth RM157,000, 2.8g of ganja worth RM84 and 1.4g of ketamine worth RM280.

ACP Raub added that two cars and cash amounting to RM1,385 from the suspects were also seized, bringing the total value of all seized items to over RM204,000.

He said all five of the suspects had 47 criminal records between them including for narcotics while four of them tested positive for drugs.

“The group’s modus operandi was using the apartment units they had been renting as a place for them to repackage and store the drugs before selling them in the local market,” he added.

ACP Raub also said that the seized drugs from the syndicate could have been used by 5,000 addicts in the area.

He added the five are under remand until next Monday (Sept 9) to assist in investigations of the group’s drug supply under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 36 (1) of the Weapons Act 1960.

ACP Raub urged the public to continue forwarding information relating to drugs or other criminal activities to the Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-2182222.
