Baby boy found abandoned at a surau in Nilai


NILAI: A baby boy has been found abandoned at a surau here, says the police.

District police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said a member of the public found the infant on a sofa at the place of worship at around 8pm on Thursday (Aug 28).

"Based on preliminary investigations, a suspect left the baby there during Maghrib prayers and then left in a vehicle,” he said in a statement.

Supt Abdul Malik said the case was being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment.

Offenders can be jailed for up to seven years or fined or both upon conviction.

He asked those with information to contact the district police station at 06-790 4389.
