Revenge was motive behind gangland slaying of youth in Jasin, says cop

MELAKA: Revenge is believed to be the motive behind a gangland-style slaying of a youth at Jasin Hospital here, said Melaka police.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Jamil Radzi said the preliminary investigation indicated that an earlier feud between the victim and his assailants had led to the brutal murder on Sunday (Aug 25).

"We are still probing whether there is possible involvement of triads in the hacking of the 24-year-old man," he said on Tuesday (Aug 27).

DSP Ahmad Jamil said four suspects, aged between 20 to 35 years have been detained in connection with the alleged murder and his men are tracking down more suspects whom they believe could shed light on the murder case.

He said the four suspects have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation of the case.

On Monday (Aug 26), DSP Ahmad Jamil said Melaka police had opened four investigation papers in relation to the attack.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Jamil Radzi said apart from investigating under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, his team is also probing the attack under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 427 for committing mischief.

He said the other investigation paper is opened under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation that happened at the victim's house at Taman Sin Ban Bee in Jasin.

The youth was brutally murdered at the entrance of Jasin Hospital here with medical staff and patients witnessing the scene of terror.

The victim was first attacked by a group of masked men armed with machetes at a barber shop in Taman Rim Baru here at about 8.40pm on Sunday (Aug 25).

"The injured victim managed to contact his 22-year-old brother to drive him to the Jasin Hospital to seek medical attention.

However, upon arriving at the emergency unit of the hospital, the assailants returned and again started to attack the victim mercilessly and even smashed the windscreen of the car driven by his brother.

DSP Ahmad Jamil said the terrified victim's brother fled the scene and sought shelter at the Jasin police headquarters where he also lodged a police report.

The victim succumbed to injuries at about 10.15pm on the same day (Aug 25).

An ambulance parked at the hospital was also damaged due to the fracas.
