Teenager's attempted murder case set for mention on Sept 22

BANTING: The Telok Datok Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Aug 11) set Sept 22 for mention of the case involving a 15-year-old girl charged with attempting to murder a Form Three student at a secondary school here.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Yazid said Magistrate Maslinda Selamat fixed the date as the psychiatric report on the accused was not yet ready.

He said the proceedings were conducted in chambers without the accused present.

On July 10, the teenager was charged at the same court with attempting to murder the Form Three student.

The charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine, or up to 20 years' imprisonment, upon conviction. The offence may carry the death penalty if the victim is injured.

No plea was recorded from the teenager, and the court ordered her to undergo a psychiatric assessment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak. – Bernama
