MELAKA: Organising sports between law enforcement agencies can strengthen cooperation among personnel to maintain the security of participating countries, says Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He highlighted this during the 35th Rujirawongse Cup Rugby Championship between the police and the Thai police held at Hang Jebat Stadium on Thursday (Aug 15).

"I believe RTP's visit to Melaka through this competition can further strengthen the long-standing relationship between Malaysia and Thailand, considering this annual rugby meet has been ongoing for 35 years," he said.

"It is important that the good relationship between the two Southeast Asian law enforcement agencies is maintained for both nations," he added while speaking at the dinner in conjunction with the 35th edition of the Rujirawongse Cup Rugby Championship.

Also present were Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain and head of the Thai police delegation, Lieutenant General Kornchai Klayklueng, representing Thailand's Police Chief.

Ab Rauf expressed hope that the tournament will serve as a platform to exchange views and generate new ideas in preparing and strengthening the defence lines of each country.

This effort aims to maintain the region as a secure zone, positively impacting economic, political, and social stability.

In the friendly matches, the team beat RTP in both categories. They secured a 32-21 victory in the Open Category and a 26-0 win in the Veteran Category.
