KUALA LUMPUR: RM1.5bil has been lost to commercial crimes thus far this year, says Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.
The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director said the losses were recorded between Jan 1 and Aug 11 and added that 18,205 commercial crime cases were investigated.

"While the number of cases shows an 8% reduction compared to the same period last year, there is a 31% spike where RM1.16bil worth of losses were recorded (last year)," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Aug 14).
Comm Ramli said curbing commercial crimes in an era of advanced technology is a challenge that demands police commitment, especially from the CCID.
"So far, we are doing our best with 10,848 investigation papers successfully prosecuted this year," he said.
Comm Ramli said commercial crime cases are expected to increase by the end of this year, surpassing the previous year.
"This trend is a challenge for the police to double its efforts to curb commercial crimes nationwide. We also urge the public to play their part, especially in commercial crime prevention," he said.
