13 college students claim trial for murder in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: Thirteen Lahad Datu Vocational College students who were accused of killing their college mate in March have claimed trial to murder on Tuesday (Aug 13).

The teenagers, aged between 16 and 19, pleaded not guilty to murdering Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat Mohd Narul Narul Azwan, 17, before Tawau High Court judge Datuk Duncan Sikodol.

All the accused nodded in understanding when a court interpreter read out their charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The court fixed the trial dates to run from Nov 18 to 22 and continue from Nov 25 to 29.

If convicted, the teenagers could face the death sentence.

The boys were accused of murdering Mohamad Nazmie in Dormitory Room 7 Resak and 5 Belian at the Lahad Datu Vocational College between 9pm and 7.38am on March 21 and 22.

Police arrested the 13 teenagers on March 22 after the hostel warden found Mohammad Nazmie dead in the dormitory.

Initial police investigations said that the victim was beaten up because he was suspected of "stealing" RM85 that two other boys said was "missing".
