Govt dept director, deputy held over graft

MELAKA: A 50-year-old government department director and his deputy are among four people arrested for bribery.

The four, including a woman, are aged between 34 and 60.

They were arrested at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) state headquarters in Alai here after being called in to record their statement on Saturday.

The civil servants had allegedly received bribes close to RM177,000 as inducements for approvals of payments relating to contract works while the other two were said to be linked to the company which was awarded the contracts.

A remand order was granted by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie said the suspects were being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
