Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said those being sought, three men and a woman, were needed to wrap up the investigation.

"We believe that there were 18 people involved.

"Four were shot dead, 10 arrested and remanded until Wednesday (Aug 14), and four are still at large.

"All of them have criminal records. Pictures and details will be distributed to the media soon," he told a press conference here on Monday (Aug 12).

Comm Hussein said the 18 suspects played different roles including planning the crime, carrying out the abduction, collecting the ransom, and watching over the victims until they were released.

"Among those involved is the driver of the victim, who is one of the planners. The motive was to get money," he said.

The suspects are believed to have received equal shares of the US$1.2mil (RM5.34mil) ransom that was paid in cryptocurrency, he added.

Comm Hussein said police had confiscated various items including vehicles worth RM3.1mil and found RM1.65mil in cash in the course of the probe.

Among the confiscated items are six luxury watches, a chain with a gold pendant, two MPVs and a four-wheel drive.

On Aug 2, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police shot dead four individuals in two shootouts in Skudai, Johor.

They also arrested four suspects, aged between 25 and 43, around Johor on the same day.

Comm Shuhaily was also reported to have said that the two victims were released on the evening of July 15 by the roadside along the Pedas-Linggi road in Negri Sembilan after the ransom was paid. – Bernama
