Manager fined RM10,000 in fraud case

IPOH: An agriculture company manager was fined RM10,000 after pleading guilty to cheating the Perak Veterinary Services Department three years ago.

Shaharani Firdauz Abd Ghani, 38, pleaded guilty to an alternative charge under Section 415 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 417 of the same Code, before Sessions Court Judge Ibrahim Osman yesterday.

Shaharani Firdauz was accused of deceiving state department director Datuk Dr Ahmad Shafri Hassan into approving an invoice worth RM836,798 for the supply of imported livestock to the department’s livestock sub-sector project in Perak Tengah on Dec 14, 2021.

The livestock was found to have been bought from local breeders in Manjung, Batang Kali and Kelantan instead of being imported.

The payment was approved on Dec 15, 2021, and deposited into the accused’s bank account the following day.
